You can’t fix that

One of the most astonishing things to me about human beings in this life, makes me feel like an outsider. What don’t I know? Why do I think this is weird? If all the ‘smartest people’ in the world are engaging in this thing that doesn’t make any sense to me, I must be the crazy one… you’d think. But I don’t believe it’s me.

When I sit barefoot on ground leaning with my head resting against the trunk of a tree far older than me, I ask about this weird thing that humans do. Being a peace master, she doesn’t say much. Just gently hints to the fact that everyone is learning and in order for balance to occur in this world, we need the ups and downs, the misunderstandings that lead to understandings, the selfishness to make the selflessness so visible.

Nature is at peace with it. I am not. I guess that’s what makes me human.

If you look around, you might see it happening quite close to you.

Everywhere you look, human beings are trying to control nature. Humans want things a certain way. The weather, the temperature, the town plans and the cities (just look at the pathetic ‘perfectly organised’ nature strips in cities… looks liek nature being strangled to me). For the modern human, money is the most valuable thing even though that we all know quite well that money alone won’t fill your belly or build a roof over your head.

Why do we try to control nature?

Why do we try to make nature bend to our will?

We have been perfecting the ‘art’ of ‘fixing nature’ for so long that many of us can’t fathom the idea of no hot water, no electricity or having to sleep under the starts. “What do you mean I have to be outside?” You know, in the place that birthed you. Your mother. Mother NATURE. We are so backwards that we prioritise our social media status over the status of the earth. We prioritise make-up, expensive clothing that harms the world, how photogenic we are or a moment is. We don’t SEE anything in nature. We want a photo of nature.

We step over the ground looking down with our eyes glued to screens never actually seeing the true point of life.

Unfortunately, it’s only on our death bed that we find clarity. We find a clear vision on what is actually important in this life. You know what you won’t find important on your death bed?

How aesthetic your social media feed is. What everyone else thinks of you. How many photos and videos you have collected on your smart phone. What your perfect house looks like. How much money you have. What kind of fancy car you have. What kind of dead end job you have. All of that rubbish just falls out the window.

You know what you will suddenly care about?

How much time you spent playing in the sun, soaking up the time in nature and hugging your loved ones. Conversations and quality time spent with real life people that love you. How much time you spent creating and inventing. Gardening, laughing, painting, reading, hiking and dancing. The time you spent climbing trees to catch the sunset, the board games, the hobbies, the learning new things and the time spent with animals that surrounded you, that were watching you as you sat choosing the perfect filter for your next pointless social media post that will make everyone think you’re happy, when in reality…

You’re a lost human searching for meaning in a world that’s so focused on controlling nature that it forgot what really matters.

So you search for a filter that successfully covers up the disconnection in your eyes.

You know the only way to fix that dullness?

Stop trying to control nature (including your own self as you are part of nature).

And come back home to nature.

Be with nature.

We should always visit our family.

Mother Nature is your family.

Go visit her.

Don’t try to fix her.

Just be with her.

And she will be with you.

let nature be,
