Journaling Practice To Calm A Busy Mind

Journaling is a powerful practice for getting you out of your head. There can often me sooooo much on our minds that it becomes very difficult to organise, plan and even understand what’s going on and what you’d like to do.

I am having one of those days today. Where you feel like you’ve got so much happening, too much to do and so many plans that it becomes extremely overwhelming.

SO, to help myself, I am doing this journaling practice and I wanted to share it with you because I am sure that most humans reading this will resonate with how it feels to be busy, overwhelmed and even stuck in your head.

The following journaling practice will help calm your mind, organise your priorities, plan, highlight anything that’s standing in the way and help you get the busyness out of your head and onto the paper.

Grab your journal and a pen.

Find a quiet space (ideally outside) and continue with your prompts:

  1. How is your heart right now? (Go into detail, talk to your journal as if it were a dear friend listening and caring about you).

  2. How is your mind right now?

  3. To Do Blurt: Write down EVERYTHING that is on your mind. Get it ALL out. Out of your head and down into your journal. Big things, small things and everything in-between. Write it all down.

  4. Circle or highlight the things that are priorities for you right now. The things that needs to be done, addressed or sorted out first.

  5. Write all the other things down on a seperate page and call it, “To Do Later”. Save it, you can go back to those things but for now you know they are not important.

  6. Neatly write down the things that are priorities for you and label them or even highlight them so you can categories them. Work, home, friends, event etc.

  7. What’s been stopping you from making progress lately?

  8. How can you support yourself in getting things done without burning yourself out?

  9. How can you implement more of the things you enjoy doing into your days?

  10. How can you care for yourself more?

  11. Write down your to do list for the rest of the day or for tomorrow. You can even write a list for the next week but I want you to be SUPER realistic about what can get done, prioritise the important things first and include your self care in your list.

Presence is the key to being productive and enjoying your free moments.

  12. How can you practice more presence so that you can be productive, enjoy each beautiful moment and live your life fully?

  13. How can you let go of the fact that you can’t do EVERYTHING right now? There will always be more to do… but this moment is only happening right now.

    Let go & enjoy now.

Take a deep breath and soften your shoulders and face.

Go about the rest of your day with peace and clarity.

with love,
