What is the point?

I often wonder, what is the point of all this?

What is the point of this life?

We are born through unlikelihood and pain. We grow, learn and suffer along the way. When I say suffer, I mean those times of physical suffering (colds, flus, aches & pains, broken bones and the rest), mental suffering (the stress, anxiety, fear, regret and all of those fun things) and emotional suffering (sadness, grief, anger… you get it).

I believe there is also spiritual suffering, feeling disconnected, out of place, homesick and a even deep lack of purpose. There is just so much suffering. Just look around you. Humans suffer, animals and insects suffering, the ocean suffering, forests suffering, the Earth suffering.

Some plants, animal species and even humans are just hanging on in this life by a thread. All suffering. When you see this suffering, do you ever wonder ‘what was the point?’ When you hear of the misfortune and pain of others, do you ever wonder ‘who planned this?’ I do. All the time.

I also think about this when I see people scrolling on their phones for hours on end, staring at the tv or computer screen almost hypnotised and when we fight over the little things with people we love. (Are we wasting our precious time on this planet?)

I think about the point of life when I see people ignoring those who need help, sticking their heads in the sand to avoid the discomfort of the truth and when I see people clip clopping along in fancy shoes to make themselves look or feel like something important or of value.

What are we doing?

Look at the advertisments, the viral dances online, the hours spent indoors while the sun plays outside, the amount of time we go without seeing the stars or the sunset and the lack of compassion and genuine care in the world. The greed. Are we really here just to run around chasing a made up resource (money) meanwhile pushing everyone else down just so we can feel on top?

What is the point?

Whenever I find myself asking this question… first I remember the teachings that Yoga and many other philosophies offer, ‘you are here to awaken and for that, you need suffering’. There is no greater teacher than suffering. No greater strength workout than suffering.

I also feel what I know as my heart responding to my pondering…

You are here to love, to enjoy and to bask in the sun. To dance in the rain, to cry, to feel and to create beautiful art in whatever shape that takes for you. You are here to make the world a better place just by your presence in it. You are here to be loved, cherished and valued. We all are.

Who knows why we are here? I may be missing the reason entirely but never mind that. What helps me get through each day, is knowing that suffering creates strength and you cannot have deep love, care and compassion without some level of suffering.

You are here to experience life on Earth. Life on Earth is messy, absolute heaven and all things in between.

Don’t be afraid to get a little messy along the way, it’s all part of the fun.

Enjoy your day, enjoy your life & don’t take it all so seriously.

love,
